Our journey continues

I am writing this post while we are cruising at 30,000 feet on our way to Sydney Australia. We've had a few setbacks already forcing us to revisit our plans for this trip, but everyone is doing great so far.

The first setback was that Bev and Blane didn't meet up with us as planned in Los Angeles. It turns out that delta booked them onto a flight from Minneapolis to Los Angeles that they decided to cancel at the last minute. We found out Monday at around 8pm local time that their itinerary had changed, forcing them to spend the night in Atlanta. The best part was, they never informed us of this change, Bev only found this out when she went to check in online. It told her that there had been a change to her flight plan and that they would instead of getting on a direct flight from Minneapolis to LA, be routed through Atlanta causing them to miss the Tuesday flight to Sydney and be forced to take the Wednesday flight instead. What a load of crap delta!
After many phone calls they are now scheduled to leave on wedneday afternoon and arrive in Sydney on Friday vs Thursday, but at least they wont have to spend the night in atlanta and wait in LA airport for 12 hours. Of course this is based upon delta not canceling anymore flights on them. Hopefully they make it.

The next setback involves the horrific earthquake that struck Christchurch on Tuesday. We are currently scheduled to fly to Christchurch on Sunday February 27, but as of right now no planes can fly into Christchurch and the city centre has been evacuated, which is where are accommodations are. Christchurch is our starting point for our journey as this is where we are picking up our motorhome on march 1st, so I don't know if we can completely avoid going to Christchurch. My hope is that flights do resume over the coming days, and that we can change our flight from the Sunday to the Tuesday, at which point we would arrive in Christchurch and proceed to directly picking up our motorhome. No need for the citizens of Christchurch to have to accommodate five Canadians right now, they have way more pressing concerns. Once I know more (I have plenty of phone calls to make when we land) I will let everyone know.

I do have a few pictures to share. These are of our lovely hosts on Monday night. Roger's brother Greg, his wife and kids were kind enough to pick us up from the ferry, find us a bed to sleep on, and then drive us to the airport this morning. Once again greg and sumico (i know i spelt your name wrong, so i apologize) you are an amazing hosts.
